Qantas began its third weekly year round service between Queenstown and Sydney in February 2010, operating on Sunday. This adds to the year round services that operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with additional flights for peak summer and winter seasons. The flights have a passenger capacity of 165.
Air New Zealand is increasing flights between Australia and Queenstown by 20 per cent during the coming ski season, by adding an extra weekly return service to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Glen Sowry, Air New Zealand Tasman Pacific manager said, “The increase in capacity reflects the ever-increasing interest in the Southern Lakes as a holiday destination.”
