The annual index by Transparency International ranked 180 countries on a scale of zero to ten according to 13 independent surveys, with zero indicating highly corrupt and ten as having low levels of corruption. New Zealand scored 9.4, followed by Denmark with 9.3, Singapore and Sweden tying at 9.2, and Switzerland with 9.0. Rounding out the top ten least corrupt countries were Finland, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada and Iceland.
Britain was ranked 17th and the United States of America was 19th, with a score of 7.5. Somalia scored the least with a score of 1.1.
